Our Journey
I’m sure like most people, our journey is one that we did not expect to be pursuing. A little background, my wife was raised on her small family Dairy Farm located in Wabasha County in Minnesota, while I was raised on my families Cow/Calf Beef Farm located in Olmsted County in Minnesota. We both went to the same high school in Plainview, MN, but we had no idea how important we would become to each other.
Flash forward to the summer of 2016, where I am working a summer job at Target retrieving shopping carts from the parking lot, when our paths crossed again. Five years later in the Fall of 2021 we got married on my parents’ family farm, and we bought a home in Plainview. I had graduated from MNSU, Mankato, and she from University of Wisconsin River Falls. I majored in Law Enforcment while she majored in Dairy Sciences.
Those familiar with the area will not be surprised to find out I got a job at Mayo Clinic as a Security Officer, and my wife began working on the Family Dairy Farm, slowing acquiring cows of her own. It was at this time, knee deep in world pandemics and rising prices where my passion for sustainability was rekindled.
“"Sustainability is about meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." - Gro Harlem Brundtland
My first goal with sustainable practices as a brand new college graduate was simple, to save money and pay off my student loans. I was already working a full-time job and helped on the Dairy farm during my time off, so my only option to improve my financial situation was to “pinch pennies”.
I began tracking my energy use, transitioning to LED light bulbs in our new home, updating insulation and other “green” projects, which over the past 4 years has left my electrical bill stagnant. Given the fact that electrical costs have only been rising, I was overjoyed to see my cost stay the same.
This only success only encouraged further projects which I would hate to spoil here so check out our blog posts to find out all the cool ways we have adjusted our way of life to live more sustainably and be more fulfilled while we do it.
Our journey has led us to begin our own business in order to expand our abilities to positively impact our community, and to make a positive impact on our environment. Follow along as we make our dreams a reality, one small project at a time.
